Learning is a lifelong process. Workplaces, regulations and technologies will continue to evolve. Workplaces, regulations and technologies will continue to evolve. It is therefore imperative that WSHOs continue to improve and enhance their knowledge and skills to keep pace with these developments. Helping WSHOs stay competent and relevant to the environment in which they operate is a core goal of this Continuing Professional Development programme.

Under the CPD programme, all WSHOs are required to continually upgrade their knowledge and skills in order to keep pace with new developments and professional practices and apply new ideas and procedures to their work or areas of speciality. This ensures that WSHOs can continually add value to the organisations that employ them.

To accomplish this, WSHOs will be required to undergo or participate in approved structured activities, as defined in the CPD programme for WSHOs.

A CPD Board, chaired by a senior WSHC officer, senior members of WDA and with senior members of SISO, are responsible for evaluating and accrediting SDU Points for WSH-related programmes.
The Board ensures that the programmes are current and of relevance to the profession, in accordance with the objectives of the CPD programme.
Organisers of structured programmes or activities, like local tertiary institutions, professional and allied WSH institutions, Government agencies and other.
Commercial course providers, are required to submit their applications to the CPD Board for evaluation.

To accomplish this, WSHOs will be required to undergo or participate in approved structured activities, as defined in the CPD programme for WSHOs.

Category A1 (b):

Approved lectures, short courses, conferences, workshops & seminars

Lectures, short courses, conferences, workshops & seminars that are relevant to registered safety officer on safety & health matters. For example:
•Seminars on regulatory requirements by government agencies such as OSHD, BCA, SCDF, ENV, LTA etc
• "Safety & Health programme" organised by SISO
• Workshops and seminars on safety & health conducted by local tertiary institutions.

Category A1 (c)

Approved In-house training

Approved In-house training courses which are relevant to WSHO to safety, health, professional development, legal or regulatory matters. (CV of speakers to be similar to category 1(a) or 1(b). For details of CV requirements, please refer to Framework for Accreditation)

Category A2
‍
Participation in professional Boards, committees & Societies

b) Member of relevant technical or working committees of professional associations and government agencies. For example:
• Member of technical committees of government departments and statutory Boards;
• Member of technical or other working committees of SISO, CSP;
• Member of approved technical societies; etc.

2 SDUs per committee (Maximum for this category in 8 SDUs)

Category A3

Contribution to relevant safety & health knowledge

a) Conduct approved lectures, seminars, conferences or training courses

b) Write or edit technical articles or papers published in distinguished publications, conference proceedings, professional journals or booksa) Conduct approved lectures, seminars, conferences or training courses

c) Safety patents registered during the year

a. 1 SDUs for each lecture hr or part thereof (Maximum for this category in 12 SDUs)

Category A4
‍
Safety & Health employment (for at least ½ the duration for the renewal-qualifying period)

• The professional safety function must be the primary function of the position and contain at least 50% of the position duties.

• The position must have a primary responsibility for the prevention of harm to people, property, and the environment.

• The position must be a minimum of 42 hrs per week.

• The position must be at the professional level. This is determined by evaluating the level of responsibility.

• The position must have a breadth of safety duties. This is determined by evaluating the variety of hazards about which a candidate must advise and the range of skills involved in recognising, evaluating and controlling hazards. Examples of skills are analysis, synthesis, design, investigation, planning, administration, and communication

10 SDUs for the employment that fits the description under this category.

• Attending organised group safety & health site visits and exhibitions

1 SDU for every 2 hrs

Overseas courses or seminars are generally deemed as unstructured activities, unless the course organiser submits the details of overseas course/seminar programme for review and evaluation, prior to the start of the course or seminar.
